State Championship Results

By | May 24th, 2013|

Results are now online on NorCal website (http://www.norcalmtb.org/) for the State Championship race last weekend at Stafford Lake.  It was a hot and dusty day with many challenging steeps on the trail.  I am so pleased with all of our riders who took the opportunity to race.  Each of you gained valuable experience in racing and learned a little more about yourselves out there. Give yourself a pat on the head for me 🙂

Congratulations to you all – Tam High placed 7th overall in the team competition, our best State finish EVER!
Check your email inbox for the NorCal race report, it is a dynamic piece of writing.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all again at our season party next week.  Enjoy a great weekend.

Wednesday ride

By | May 14th, 2013|

Wow, how did we get here?  Wednesday’s ride will be our last team ride this season!  Meet at the school at 3:30. If you get out to ride today, keep your ride short and sweet. Work in some 1 – 2 min intervals if you can. This is the time to be working on our speed not our fitness. See you Wed!

Happy Mother’s Day to our Tam Mtb Moms!

Boggs Race Report

Boggs NorCal Championship Race Report
Super fun trails! Hot! Dusty! More climbing than I thought! This is how the Tamalpais Team described the race course at Boggs Mountain last weekend.
The winding single track and fire roads are nestled in the area known as the Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest.  While I like to think of this delightful place as a remarkable demonstration of happy trail camaraderie between those on wheels and those on legs, the forest is operated as a research facility to demonstrate projects on forest management, fish and wildlife habitat, and watershed protection while providing public recreation opportunities.  There are over 30 miles of trails open to mountain biking in the forest land.  We are so very lucky to have a race here on the NorCal schedule each year.
The school Prom festivities on Saturday evening lead to a smaller Tam Team for this race, but those that made the trek to Lake County performed admirably and proudly.
Girls:
Only two of our Tam girls raced at Boggs, Lisa and Mae in the JV category.  Each rider overcame bobbles on the trail to pull off 10th place, Lisa and 12thplace, Mae. Their perseverance is to be highly commended – NEVER give up if you can get back on your bike to finish a race!  Congratulations to you both.
Boys:
Our Freshman boys continue to be a powerhouse in their field.  With 10 riders our boys made up nearly 20% of the group!  Clayton stepped onto the podium again this race in 3rd place.  We are all rooting for him to catch that wonder boy from the Trojans – will it happen at the State Championship?  Certainly a high quality demonstration of racing by all of you young men: Elliot, Travis, Stuart, Will, Gavin, Henry, Sam, Kevin and Bowen.
The Sophomore boys have the luxury of a smaller field than their younger mates, but that treat is offset by the addition of another lap.  These guys must be working together to encourage each other to outstanding feats of endurance and skill.  Sean and Garrett were separated by barely a minute, MJ another minute back (after recovering from a lousy start) and Bennett pulled out another race finish with his hand in that (by now really dirty) cast.   Keep it up boys.
The JV boys are the second largest start field on race day.  The jostling for start position was tough at this venue with the narrow shoot riders were ushered into before the start line.  The Tam boys headed to the lineup in good position for the fast and furious initial trip up the fire road. Shane returned to racing after a sojourn in France, Jack was back in action and Axel completed the race despite a frustrating loss of mojo due to a mechanical problem. Three laps down and all three crossed the finish line – nice work.
Our Varsity contingent was small but mighty.  Dylan wasn’t able to roll to the start line, suffering from a miserable bout of stomach flu, leaving Laird and Reid to wave the Tam jersey banner.  These two boys made the leap to the varsity field this year and have shown they certainly earned the opportunity. Both race with the level of determination needed to zoom around the race course for multiple laps.
Congratulations Team! I’m proud of you all J Coach Christy

Wed Ride

By | May 1st, 2013|

Great time at Boggs everyone. Race report to follow. In the meantime, we do have a ride scheduled for Wednesday. There is a Red Flag alert in Marin County Open Space as of Tuesday and Tam is closed.  We can still ride the Headlands though.  Plan is to head out towards Rodeo Beach for some cooler temps. Bring extra water!!!
