China Camp Sunday?

By | February 28th, 2014|

We are considering riding China Camp Sunday. It is the best match we have for the terrain at these early season races. However, if it rains hard on Saturday, we will probably have to switch back to Tam because we don’t want to trash the softer trails at CC. Watch here for updates.

Ride Ride Ride!

By | February 27th, 2014|

It looks like the rain going to give us a break this afternoon. Unfortunately, neither Christy nor I can lead a ride today. I hope you all can get out on your own while it’s clear. If anyone wants to post a ride place/time here, feel free to do so.

Thursday spin class at the community center

By | February 27th, 2014|

We all need to get some riding in this week.   If you haven’t gotten out for a ride, you may want to hit the spin class at the community center Thursday at 6:30. $11, ride in flat shoes or SPDs.  Taught by Nati.

Wed ride/spin session (Wed 2/26)

By | February 26th, 2014|

Update:  “It’s now official. We are riding trainers at Tam Bikes @3:45. We have 12 – 13 trainers for certain. Sessions will be 50 mins, so if we fill up the trainers we will have time for a second session. See you there”

If the rain goes according to the forecast, it is going to be pretty wet this afternoon. We will stay flexible, but our backup plan is to meet at Tam Bikes at 3:45 for a spin session on our trainers. We have at least 10 trainers and I am scrounging around for more. If you have one at home and can bring it down, please do. Please comment here if you can bring a trainer. If we max out, we will run a second session about an hour later. Hope for a clearing… and BRING A TOWEL!

Also, please check the “Parent/Rider Info” tab just above this and see Nancy’s recent post about everyone’s race week checklist.

Race at the Fort – Monterey NorCal Race #1

By | February 26th, 2014|

Nice job in Monterey everyone! Helped by podium finishes by Clayton (3rd JV Boys) and Maggie (5th Freshman Girls), Tam finished 5th in Division 1. That’s pretty good for what is still a very young team, but still leaves us some room for improvement! In addition to our two podiums, we had a number of strong rides: Mae 7th (Varsity Girls), Lauren 9th and Amanda 12th(JV Girls), Felix 6th (Freshman Boys), Travis 8th, Ethan 12th and Weston 15th (Soph Boys), Sean 12th and Garrett 15th (JV Boys). Everyone worked hard to be ready for this, and worked hard to finish. All of us coaches are really proud of you. We have learned a lot about you from riding with you the past few months, but we learned a lot more Sunday. In the next day or so, please send me and Christy a very short note on your race. How you felt, anything that went wrong, any tactical mistake you might have made, whether you were feeling strong at the finish or starting to drop off earlier. Especially note if there was a point in the race where your position was changing a lot (passed or passing). Let us know what you ate or drank and when. We won’t be looking for style points or grammar. Just the facts – as you remember them. We hope to ride at 3:30 Wed, but rain is on the horizon. If it’s raining and cold, we will postpone the ride or try to find an indoor place to set up some trainers. Keep an eye on this space for updates. Congratulations again! Here are some pictures from Frank, Nate’s dad. Thanks Frank!

Pre-ride Saturday at 3:30

By | February 21st, 2014|

Hi Team, we are going to meet for the pre-ride at 3:30 Saturday at our spot in the Pit Zone (note that we have moved this back by half an hour). On the map of the Pit Zone, traffic enters from the left and continues in a counter clockwise direction. We are about 2/3rds of the way around on the outside. WEAR YOUR TAM JERSEY. See you there!

Weds Ride – meet at Tam High 3pm

Wednesday Ride (2/19)

By | February 18th, 2014|

Tapering the week before a race: If you all are getting out to ride this week, keep them easy and short.  Ideally, do a few short sprints/intervals at about 80 – 90% of your normal effort.  We want to keep our legs fresh for Sunday!  We will have a team ride Wed at 3:00 (NOTE THE EARLY START). We will just take it easy and spin out to Tennessee Valley and practice feedzone handoffs.  If you have any questions about your bike and its readiness, we can go over that Wed as well.

Are you Race Ready?

By | February 14th, 2014|

Check the PitZone to be sure your registration is complete. The printed and signed waiver needs to be submitted before you are eligible to race. Mail in that waiver ASAP or bring it with you to the race. On-line race registration will close Monday 17th. You can register race day at the venue, but there is an additional $10 fee.

There will be a team ride Sunday, 9:00am, meeting at The Depot. Plan for a longer ride, then a recovery week before the race next weekend.

Two things

By | February 12th, 2014|

We will be having a meeting in Mr Hartquist’s room (152 wood hall) at lunch THURSDAY.  We want to discuss race strategy.  This will be most useful for our new riders, but I’m sure everyone can learn something. Experienced racers can also share their perspectives. Wednesday ride will be at 3:30 from Tam. I am sick and can’t make it. Have a great ride!
