Petaluma Ranch Trailwork day and Preride this Sunday (3/30)

By | March 27th, 2014|

We are going up to the Petaluma Ranch venue this Sunday for a Trailwork day and bonus preride! We meet there (4497 Adobe Rd) at 10:00AM. You need to wear appropriate work clothes (boots etc), please read the email from the league about how to dress, how to enter the site etc. There is not supposed to be any poison oak. Google says this is about 35 minutes from the high school! Close! Bring a bag lunch and water for working and riding. We will finish working by noon, then eat and change for a preride from 1 – 3. Here’s the map below. Please approach the venue so that you can turn RIGHT into the property. The left turn approach is very dangerous and forbidden. Let’s all try to make this. It will impress the league and give us a huge advantage to see the course early. Best approach is Hwy 37, left on Lakeville Hwy, Rt on 116E/Stage Gulch Rd, Left on Adobe.

The weather should be clear for Sunday. Watch for last minute updates. Also, please take 2 minutes to take this MCBC land use survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/marinbiketrailsurvey

Bring rain jackets.  We’ll keep it close by riding the quick drying trails in the Headlands and cut out early if rains moves in.

All you podium finishers are famous now. This article is from the IJ. Scroll past that tennis stuff.

Wednesday ride

Weather report is calling for rain this afternoon. We are going to make a call on today’s ride at 2:30.

Great day in Monterey yesterday!

By | March 24th, 2014|

Despite riding on terrain that is completely different from anything we see on our normal rides, our riders put in some amazing performances! We had FOUR riders on the podium for the first time ever.

Finally healthy, Johnny finished his first ever NorCal race in 3rd, just 11 seconds behind 2nd. Maggie, outrode nearly everyother freshman girl in the conference to finish 2nd. Felix rode strongly from start to finish to break onto the podium in 4th, and Clayton finished 2nd in a heavyweight battle that leaves him just a few points out of the leader’s jersey!
In addition to our podium finishers, Sean, Garrett, Lauren and Mae completed the scoring for Tam. The top eight point scorers create the team score. Congratulations everyone for a great weekend!

Please note that we are planning on attending a trailwork day at Petaluma Ranch on Sunday. We will work on the trails from 10 – 12, then after lunch we get to preride the course for the following weekend’s race (1 – 3)! This will be a nice advantage for us and a great way to help NorCal. More details to follow
.
Wednesday’s ride will be as usual – 3:30 from the school.

A big thanks to Frank Leahy for these awesome pictures: http://goo.gl/OsLtzH

Back to Monterey this weekend!

By | March 21st, 2014|

Just a few details: We race Sunday. Christy will lead a preride at 3:45 Saturday from our space in the Pit Zone. I will lead another at 8:15 on Sunday morning for anyone who didn’t get out Saturday. Felix, Maggie, Megan, Clayton, Sean and Travis will get CALL UPS! George, Nate, Garrett, Bennett, MJ, Lyndsey, Markita, Ethan, Weston and Gavin will all be seeded. Congratulations, you get to have a little more relaxed warmup! Everyone else, make sure you get warmed up early so you have time to get to the line a bit early. Especially you faster riders who aren’t seeded because you’ve missed a race. Do what you can to get a halfway decent spot at the start. The course will be different from last month. I believe that we will hit most of the same trails but in the opposite direction. I’m guessing that they will throw in a few other differences as well. The terrain will be the same though, so you have a good idea of what to expect. Now that you are all becoming seasoned racers, it will be interesting to see how it all feels the second time around!

Departing School for the Wednesday Ride

Thanks to Access4Bikes for the bike bells. This group is helping riders “to establish equitable access for mountain biking on the public trails of Marin County.” A ring of the bell is a polite notice to the other trail users when you approach.
